Europe is the second smallest continent in the world with a total surface area covering 6.8% of Earths land area. It is widely considered as the center of Western culture. Many historians believe the name “Europe” originated from the name “Europa” Princes in Greek mythology. Records indicate that Europe has played a major role in world affairs from the 16th century onwards. Many European countries engaged in wars with other countries from different continents over the 17th and 18th century during which many European countries controlled large parts of Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

Europe, like many other continents is a diverse continent with many different cultures and traditions. Christianity is the most popular religion followed by Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Rastafari, etc.  Beside the above major religions, many Europeans profess no religion and consider themselves as atheist or agnostic.  Most popular sports include football, followed by rugby, golf, cycling, tennis, etc. Europeans love music and it is widely believed as the birthplace of classical music.
