Oceania is a region that lies between Asia and America with Australia as the main land mass. It is often referred as the smallest continent in the World in terms both land area and population. Many of the countries in this continent are island nations with ocean linking the islands together rather than the continent.  

Geographically Oceania is divided into sub regions. They are; Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Although the above regions are widely recognized, some researchers and scientists divide the region into Near Oceania and Remote Oceania. The region consists of both coral atolls as well as volcanic islands. 

The region is popular for its beautiful and colorful coral reefs and attracts thousands of tourists from around the world every year. It is the home to some of the endangered marine species. It is one of the eight terrestrial ecozones which comprise the main ecological areas of the planet. Main sports activities include Cricket, Rugby, Soccer, and the popular Pacific Games (a multi sports event).
