The last thing a blogger wants to hear is about his/her blog being hacked. Many bloggers are very passionate writers and take extremely good care of their blogs to ensure their blogs remains safe. Every step must be taken to secure your blogs from hackers and unwelcome people from accessing. I have compiled a list of essential steps to make our blog secure. If the following steps are correctly followed the chances of your blog getting hacked can be greatly minimized.

Upgrade your WordPress to Latest Version- This is absolutely a must thing to do. You must upgrade your WordPress to latest version as soon as a new version becomes available. Every time a new version is released, it will be shown in your admin panel. My person advice is do a completely back-up of your old version before attempting to do an upgrade. New versions are always released to tackle issues from the past versions. I would rank upgrading your WordPress blog to latest version as one of the top essential steps to make our blog secure.

Make Your Emails Secure – A persona may ask what has my email got to do with my blog security? What this person does not know is if your email is accessed the hackers are able to get passwords reset for all other accounts that use that particular email. This absolutely vital to ensure your blog is safe and secure.

Your Password – A secure password is key to keeping your blog safe and secure. Make sure your password is strong and contains alpha numeric characters that are not related to you. Here are my suggestions for you in regards to maintaining passwords.

Make a unique Password for your blog. Do not use the same password to access multiple accounts.

Ensure you DO NOT allow cleartext storage of passwords.

Use strong passwords consisting of alphanumeric characters that are not related to you or your blog.

DO NOT allow default passwords to remain on devices on your network.

4. Do not Use an “Admin” – DO NOT use “Admin” as your primary user. If you continue to use “Admin” as the primary log-in user, hackers do not need to guess the user name and only have to guess the password. This is crucial mistake you should should never do. If you have already set it up “Admin” as the user, you can change it within admin panel by following steps.

First, create a new administrator and then log off

Next, logon as the new administrator and delete ‘Admin’.

As you do this, you are given the choice of deleting or moving posts – just move them to the new administrator

5. Managing Logon Names – It is recommended to give your users nicknames and display these nicknames as the post authors.

6. Do Back-ups – Ensure you back-up your work regularly.

I would love to hear your feedback on on the above essential steps to make our blog secure.

One of the most interesting news I heard this week was about internet user ID system U.S. is proposing to implement. The project aims to streamline government operations online and strike down one of the biggest hurdles that keeps people from trusting Internet shopping sites and other such services.

Although it sounds like a good idea to many people, I personally think any such system could be used as a potential tool for government data collection and citizen monitoring. The proposed internet user ID system is certain to have some impact on users outside the U.S.
